With the headset installed correctly & the preferred amount of spacers already installed on the fork steerer, slide the stem onto the steerer with the stem bolts loose.
Place the necessary headset spacers above the stem on the steerer so that there is 5mm between the top of the steerer tube and the top of the headset spacers or stem.
Install top cap, tighten down to 2Nm. Before torquing the stem bolts, put downward pressure on the bars with a gentle rocking motion. Re-tighten the top cap to 2-4Nm. Once you have successfully preloaded the headset, align the stem to the wheel and torque the stem bolts to 6Nm.
