What should I look for in an E-Bike when buying?

First Time Buying an E-Moto? Here's What to Look For!

Speed, range, safety, and warranty—these are the key factors to consider when choosing your first electric moto. Whether you want top speed for thrills, long range for adventures, or a model with top-tier safety features, Radmoto has the perfect ride for you. Let us help you find the e-moto that fits your style and needs!

Are E-Motos street legal?

Is Your E-Moto Street Legal? Here's What You Need to Know!

Not all e-motos are street legal! In the U.S., it depends on speed, power, and features like lights, mirrors, and turn signals. Some models are off-road only, while others are DOT-approved for street use. Need help finding a legal ride? Radmoto can guide you to the perfect street-legal e-moto!

Basically - anything without pedals that goes of 30MPH is "offroad use only," but the enforcement depends on your local laws. Unless it can be registered (moped or motorcycle) for the road.

Does my ride come with a warranty?

All bikes from Radmoto come with the manufacturer's warranty as per the bike retailer's policy. Radmoto does not offer any additional warranty on bikes or parts. We honor only the manufacturer's warranty and will work with the manufacturers to help ensure a speedy solution.

How do I charge my E-Bike?

Always use the manufacturer-approved charger to avoid battery damage.

Check the voltage and amperage rating to ensure compatibility.

Connect the charger to the wall outlet and then your e-moto’s charging port first.

Plug the charger into the power outlet (some models require turning the bike off before charging).

Look for an LED indicator (red = charging, green = fully charged).

Charging time varies by battery capacity:

  • Standard Charging: 4-8 hours
  • Fast Charging: 1-2 hours (if supported)

Unplug the charger when full to prevent overcharging (modern bikes have BMS to stop overcharging).

Store your charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Do not get it wet!!

Charging Tips for Longer Battery Life

✅ Charge regularly – avoid deep discharges (don't let it drop below 20%).

✅ Keep it cool – charge in a shaded or indoor area, avoiding extreme heat/cold.

✅ Use a surge protector if charging from a standard outlet.

✅ Check the connections – ensure a snug fit to avoid power fluctuations.

✅ Storage – Keep the battery between 50%-80% during long term storage for optimal battery health.

What are the different PEV (Personal Electric Vehicles) categories?

Personal Electric Vehicles (PEVs) come in a variety of styles, speeds, and functionalities. Here’s a breakdown of the most common categories:

E-Scooters – Lightweight, two-wheel stand-up scooters designed for urban commuting. Typically compact, with speeds ranging from 10-30 mph.

E-Bikes – Pedal-assisted or throttle-powered bikes that generally fall into three classes, reaching speeds of 20-30 mph. These are often street-legal and vary by state regulations.

E-Mopeds – Hybrid-style vehicles with pedals, similar to mopeds but fully electric. They typically reach 30-45 mph and include models like ONYX and Super73.

E-Mini Motos – Small electric dirt bikes and pit bikes with 12” or 14” wheels, such as Razor dirt bikes and similar models. Great for off-road fun.

E-Motos – High-performance electric motorcycles like Sur-Ron, Talaria, and E Ride Pro. These offer serious power and speed for off-road or light street use, depending on local regulations.

E-Motorcycles – Full-sized, highway-capable electric motorcycles, such as Zero Motorcycles, that exceed 50 mph and are built for serious riders.

Not sure which PEV is right for you? Radmoto can help you find the perfect ride for your needs!

How often does my Radmoto need maintenance?

Your Radmoto is meant to operate in all kinds of weather conditions and is basically maintenance-free.

Normal wear items such as tires and brakes will need replacement at the end of their service life, which will vary depending on the type of riding you do and the severity of use. If any service needs develop, you will be notified as to the need and extent.

If we haven't checked your bike in 3 months of riding season, we recommend to give us a call and we're happy to look it over, even over a video call!

How long do E-Moto batteries last?

Most lithium-ion batteries last 3-7 years or 800 charging cycles (completely full to empty is one cycle) before noticeable degradation. They will slowly degrade performance. They quick degrade if you charge when they are cold, leave them empty, or leave them plugged in charging for too long.

How do E-Motos compare to gas motorcycles?

E-motos offer instant torque, lower maintenance, and quieter operation but may have a shorter range and longer refueling (charging) times.

What do I do if my E-Moto starts malfunctioning?

Troubleshoot the issue.

Check our youtube account - Radmotousa YouTube Channel- for quick DIY fixes!

YouTube or the owners manual are always the best place to start looking for fixes. If you can't find those we recommend stating with steps below.

1️⃣ Check the Battery 🔋

Ensure it’s properly charged and securely connected.

Inspect for loose cables, corrosion, or swelling (a bad sign).

Try a different charger or outlet if it’s not charging.

2️⃣ Inspect the Wiring & Connections 🔌

Look for loose, disconnected, or frayed wires (especially near the controller and battery).

Secure any loose connections and replace damaged wiring.

3️⃣ Restart the System 🔄

Some e-motos have a reset button or require turning the main switch off and on.

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect it to reset the system.

4️⃣ Test the Throttle & Controller 🎛

If the throttle isn’t responding, it may be a faulty sensor or controller issue.

Try riding in a different mode (Eco/Sport) to see if it works in one setting.

Check if the controller is getting too hot—this could indicate overheating or failure.

5️⃣ Examine the Motor ⚙

If the motor is making grinding noises or not engaging, it may be:

A loose or broken belt/chain (tighten or replace).

A burnt-out motor (needs professional repair).

Fix or Get Professional Help

If you can’t find the issue or it’s a major problem, consider these options:

🛠 Basic Fixes: Tighten loose connections, charge the battery, reset the system.

🛠 Software Update: Some modern e-motos have firmware updates that fix bugs.

🛠 Professional Repair: If the motor, controller, or battery is faulty, take it to a certified service center like Radmoto’s repair service.

How fast can an E-Moto go?

Top speeds vary depending on the model. Most scooters operate up to 20mph. Most electric bicycles have 3 classes, and top out at 28mph max. Some entry-level e-motos reach 50-60 mph, while high-performance electric motorcycles exceed 100 mph.

What if I don't have a garage?

We recommend:

Keep the battery away from extreme cold (<32°F) or hot temperature (>104 °F)

Cover your ride or park away from direct sunlight

Use the provided brake lock to protect against theft

Road Rules & Safety

Am I required to wear a helmet?

We recommend safety first! Though we sell in the live, free or die state, we do require you wear a helmet when riding. Helmets are required for test rides.

I've never ridden before, how can I learn?

Before you ride our team will give you a rundown on driving and operating. We do our best to make sure you feel safe before riding. We're always a call away if you need anything.

Can two people ride?

Only one person per vehicle on test rides! But, you can double down to grab two rides & this always doubles your smiles.

What is this thing, and do I need a license to ride it?

An operator of an electric ride is granted all the rights and privileges and is subject to all of the duties of a person riding a bicycle. Except as otherwise provided or as otherwise regulated by a local authority, a class 2 & 3 e-bicycle is subject to the same provisions as a bicycle and may be used on bicycle and multi-use paths.

New Hampshire defines a moped as a vehicle that DOES NOT:

Have a motor with higher than 2 HP.

Require manual gear shifting.

Travel more than 30 MPH on flat ground.

Have an engine bigger than 50 CCs.

Where am I allowed to park?

You can usually park right in front of wherever you are going, or really close by. Please check with your local municipality if you're unsure about the parking laws in your area. Many electric rides can be parked as bicycles. If you have a moped or motorcycle check the local rules.

Can I ride in the rain or bad weather?

Yes, all weather is permitted. Most bikes are water resistant, but do not like pressure washers for cleaning. Chargers do not like to get wet. Be very careful of this as it can damage the circuits and potentially flip your circuit breaker. Just be careful!

What clothes should I wear when riding?

In addition to a helmet, you should wear long sleeves, pants, and durable, closed-toe shoes. We also recommend wearing gloves.

Is there a weight limit for safely riding?

Each vehicle has it's own specs, these are always on the manufacturers website, we can also help you find these values.
